Miranda Vint Executive Director

Miranda Vint was born and raised in Siouxland, attending Akron-Westfield Community School and Western Iowa Tech Community College, where she developed a strong appreciation for community engagement and collaboration. Today, Miranda leads the Siouxland Community Potluck Coalition as President and Chair of the Board, guiding its mission to nourish people’s bodies and hearts.

Family is at the heart of Miranda’s life—she and her husband are raising five wonderful children, ranging in age from 5 to 20. Miranda and her family help organize the children’s area for the local Renaissance fair, Riverssance, and in what little spare time she has left she enjoys gaming, crocheting, and spending time with friends, family, and their many pets.

Her decision to start the SCPC was driven by a deep commitment to community resilience and connection. Miranda recognized growing challenges for vulnerable neighbors and the increasing difficulty of bridging cultural and socioeconomic divides. She envisioned an organization that not only provides support to those in need but also creates accessible opportunities for those who want to help—bringing people together around shared meals and shared purpose. Through this work, Miranda strives to strengthen relationships, foster understanding, and build a more united Siouxland community.

Miranda has been a part of SCPC board since November 2025.

John Currid President of the Board

John Currid, originally from Minnesota but moved to Sioux City in 2012 to pursue a career in metal working/maintenance. Currently working as a pest elimination specialist (pest control). I grew up poor and in an area with limited resources for a family like mine. I have always dreamt of helping my community, but lacked the know-how or connections until recently. I spent 15 years in the National Guards. Eleven in MN and 4 in IA. My service may have ended, but my oath to the people is eternal. In my spare time I enjoy video games and LitRPG books on audible or spending time with my friends and partners.

John Currid, originally from Minnesota, moved to Sioux City in 2012 to pursue a career in metalworking and maintenance. He currently works as a pest elimination specialist, serving the community through pest control services.

Growing up in an area with limited resources, John understands the challenges faced by families in need. He has always dreamed of helping his community but lacked the connections and know-how until recently. His dedication to service is deeply rooted in his 15 years with the National Guard—11 years in Minnesota and 4 in Iowa. While his military service has ended, John proudly states that his oath to the people remains eternal.

In his spare time, John enjoys playing video games, listening to LitRPG audiobooks, and spending time with his friends and partners. His role as Vice President of the Siouxland Community Potluck Coalition reflects his commitment to building a stronger, more connected community.

John has been a part of SCPC board since November 2025.

Katie Gukeisen Vice President of the Board

Katie Gukeisen has called Sioux City home for most of her life, with the exception of two years spent in Georgia. Deeply rooted in the local community, Katie is passionate about creativity and connection. As an artist, she actively participates in Sioux City’s vibrant art scene and enjoys creating coloring sheets to share with children at local art events—bringing joy and inspiration to the next generation.

Katie’s commitment to helping others extends beyond her artistic endeavors. She works as a Senior Operator and forklift operator for a company serving the agricultural and chemical industries across five Midwest locations, balancing her professional responsibilities with her dedication to community service.

Outside of work, Katie is a proud mother of two daughters and loves finding ways to make a positive impact wherever she can. Her role as Secretary for the Siouxland Community Potluck Coalition reflects her belief in the power of collaboration and her desire to strengthen community ties through shared experiences.

Katie has been a part of SCPC board since November 2025.

Whitney McAlexander Treasurer

Whitney moved around a lot growing up but has spent most of her adult life in Sioux City. She’s worked with local non-profits and fundraisers in the past and has been in logistics and finance in her day job for the last decade. She’s now putting those skills to work for the community as Treasurer of the board for the Siouxland Community Potluck Coalition.

She shares her home with her 17-year-old daughter, Eden, and her Fiance, Krin. And you can’t walk in the door without hearing from her two very spoiled, incredibly LOUD birds, Alfie and Apollo. And if given the chance she will talk about them for way too long.

That is to say that home is frequently chaotic and loud, but it’s her #1 comfort zone and there’s nowhere else she’d rather spend her free time. While she’s a bit of a home body, she values connection and creating spaces where people feel safe and comfortable being themselves. In a world that’s become more and more disconnected over time, she’s decided to focus on doing what she can to build connections within the community and believes there’s no better way to do that than working with this organization to bring people together with food in a family friendly environment.

Whitney has been a part of SCPC since December 2025. She has been a part of the SCPC board since January 2026.

Matty George Secretary

Matty George was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she completed two years of nursing prerequisites before continuing her education through the Northern Division of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Matty earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2020.

Following graduation, she relocated to Sioux City, Iowa, where she began her career as a registered nurse and started her family.

She strongly believes in advocacy at both the personal and systemic level, emphasizing that effective advocacy begins with knowledge and understanding. As she often explains, people cannot advocate for themselves if they do not know what to advocate for. She frequently speaks about the importance of meeting fundamental needs (such as food, water, and shelter) as the foundation that allows individuals and families to move beyond survival and into learning, stability, and self-advocacy.

Matty believes deeply in building community, fostering belonging, and creating strong, supportive villages. These values show through her involvement with the SCPC team. When asked why she joined SCPC, she shared:

“I joined because I believe in building community, creating villages, and making sure no one goes hungry. People cannot learn or advocate for themselves when they are worried about their next meal. In a time when inequality exists and our generation is increasingly disconnected, community matters. I am honored to be part of this work.”

Matty has been a part of SCPC since January 2025. She has been a part of the SCPC board since February 2026.
